Sudanese Physiological Society (SPS) Constitution

Definitions:

This is an academic society concerned with the development and promotion of physiological sciences.


Location:

Faculty of Medicine, Khartoum University, Khartoum – Sudan


Objectives:

Society will:

  1. Support and encourage research in physiological sciences
  2. Promote the exchange and knowledge and experiences among its members.
  3. Establish communication channels with regional and international physiological societies and other related bodies.
  4. Help in the promotion and upgrading of physiology curricula.
  5. Help health personnel and the community appreciate essential physiological knowledge to promote good health.

Activities:

To achieve these objectives, the Society shall:

  1. Organize academic activities including seminars, symposia, workshops, lectures, and conferences.
  2. Issue scientific publications
  3. Promote the teaching of physiological sciences by cooperating with concerned institutes
  4. Encourage the exchange of visits of physiologists both locally and internationally.

  4. Advisory Board

Membership:

Membership Requests Must be approved by the Executive Committee

  1. Members: Physiologists ( MSc & Ph.D. physiology)
  2. MSc Student membership (MBBS holders, BSc Holder & Physiology Teaching Assistants)
  3. Associate members:
  4. Basic scientific and health personnel
  5. Clinically qualified doctors who participate in the physiological research.
  • Honorary membership, a candidate application should be supported by Ten members (5 of them from the executive committee of society)
  • Medical Students (Any medical field)

Subscription:

The membership fee is paid annually by SDG (Local Sudan Currency) as follows:

Administrative organization functions:

H1- General Assembly:

This consists of all registered members of society.

Functions of the General Assembly:

  1. Review the general policy of the society
  2. Elect the society office and supervise it
  3. Decides on the budget
  4. Other business referred from the executive committee
  • This assembly meets once/a year except for extraordinary meetings.

H2 -Executive committee: consists of 11 Members :

  1. The president of the society
  2. Two Vice presidents
  3. Secretary – General
  4. Deputy (Assistant) Secretary – General
  5. Secretary – Academic Office
  6. Secretary – Financial (Treasury) Office.
  7. Secretary – Information Office
  8. Secretary – Cultural Office
  9. Secretary – Membership affairs Office
  10. Secretary – Foreign Relations Office
  11. Secretary – Expatriates and External affairs Office
  • The members of this committee are elected by the general assembly every three years.
  • The general assembly has authorized the appointment of deputies to office secretaries in case of necessity.
  • This committee meets 4-6 times /year except for extraordinary meetings.

Executive committee functions:

  1. Plan and arrange for academic and social activities of the society
  2. Accept membership applications provisionally before their final approval by the general assembly.
  3. Accepts new membership
  4. Accepts donations and contributions.
  5. Structure the annual budget and present it to the general assembly for final approval.
  6. Present the annual report to the general assembly regarding the academic and administrative activities.
  7. Any other businesses referred from the general assembly.

H3-Executive Office:

The General Secretary is the head of the executive office. The executive office consists of 5-10 members for each secretariat. Each secretariat consists of 3-6 units.

The members of each secretariat (Office) are appointed by their office secretaries and deputies if any.

Executive Office Functions:

  1. Assist the executive committee in its entire
  2. Coordinate the work of units inside the offices.
  3. Its members Act as coordinators of office units

H4 – Advisory Board

The members of this Advisory board must be a Ph.D. holder in Physiology. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board are appointed by the Executive committee.

Advisory Board Functions

  1. Give advice and recommendations for the academic and social activities of society.

This Advisory Board once/year except for extraordinary meetings.

The budget:

The sources of the budget include:

  1. Subscription of members and associate members.
  2. Donations from individuals, organizations, and official bodies.

The income is kept in a bank account in local or foreign currency under the custodian of the president and honorary treasurer.

The budget is passed annually by the general assembly.
