This webinar is co-hosted in collaboration with the APS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and APS Teaching Section and discussed the challenges faced by Physiology educators worldwide during the COVID pandemic as a result of inequity of access to technology. The focus of this session was on identify challenges as well as alternative approaches to mitigate this inequity experienced by many countries and communities during the global pandemic and beyond. The experience of: University of Khartoum in Sudan, presented by Dr. Nouralsalhin Alaagibn, and the Universidade Federal de São Paulo in Brazil, presented by Prof. Camilo Lellis-Santos, were taken as an example.
The following points were addressed:
- Which challenges are encountered in countries/communities that do not have universal access to technology when in person instruction is not available?
- How do technological challenges impact faculty development, teaching resources, student engagement and equity in the classroom?
- What tools are universally available in the midst of technological immersion other than zoom?
- What can be done to increase awareness and overcome the challenges faced in other education communities?
